Nation Of Go

Vans a-rockin’

Nov 06, 2009

The Nation of GO Tour stop at Quigley Motor Company was bittersweet for the Tour crew. We were sad knowing that we’d soon be sending our trusted 4X4 van back home. But while we were there, owner Mike Quigley and his friends took us out for some four-wheeling fun in, among others, a conversion van that still had curtains in the windows. That was pretty sweet.
Quigley is a family-owned business that specializes in 4X4 van conversions, but they also put out off-road ambulances, school buses for districts that get a ton of snow, and even luxury limousine buses converted for shuttle service at ski resorts. If you ever need to drive a bunch of people into hard-to-reach places, Quigley is your obvious choice.

If you want a factory-new 4X4 van, Quigley is your only choice. Since neither Chevy nor Ford has a true four-wheel drive in its van lineup, Quigley fills a void for people who need the utility of a van with real off-road GO. They equip vans with transfer cases and new front axles, and a Quigley conversion doesn’t void the manufacturers’ warranties. The added components are covered by Quigley’s own warranty so Quigley conversions are basically the factory-new 4X4 vans that the manufacturers no longer build.

Of course factory warranties are nice, but real off-road fun comes from modifications designed for serious recreational duty. For that, MIke and his friends have taken their vans to the next level with lift kits, oversized tires and locking differentials. We put them all to work in our excursion into the woods, where we climbed steep hills and bounded through creek crossings and good old-fashioned mud.

If you’ve never experienced hardcore four-wheeling in an eleven-passenger van, it’s a little difficult to wrap your head around it at first. You have to adjust to the idea of bounding around the trails in a vehicle more commonly used to transport toddlers to daycare, or the whole church choir. Who knows, though. They might have just as much fun as we did.
