Disappearing Tire Trick

Sep 27, 2009

Ride Tech’s Bret Voelkel has a heavy right foot. So when you ask to him to bring out a few cars from the company’s “toy garage,” as they call it, you’re not going to see pampered trailer queens. Bret and his crew are more than willing to burn some rubber.

That’s what happened when the Nation of GO Tour swung through Jasper, IN, to check out the shop. First they fed us an out-of-this-world lunch of mustard-rubbed beef ribs and baked apples. Cooking for the shop is a monthly treat at Ride Tech, so we were there on the right day. Then with everyone fed it was time to bring out the muscle.

Ride Tech’s toy garage is a collection of cars the company uses to showcase its air-ride technology. So they’re all ride-height adjustable at the press of a button. They had a demo chassis set up in the shop that we got to try out. Raising and lowering each corner independently was lots of fun and we can see how you’d enjoy changing the look of your car so easily.

Back at the garage, we picked out three of our favorite cars – the red GTO, the black Mustang and the orange Camaro. Then Ride Tech brought them out to their huge concrete parking lot to play. The video shows it best, but there was no holding them back. By the time they were done, half the tread from the GTO’s rear tires was in a pile of rubber dust on the pavement. And the aroma from the grill was replaced by the distinct scent of burning rubber. That’s the smell of GO.
